Niagara River fishing report February 21, 2016

After a long wait for conditions to improve (water clarity), we are back on the lower Niagara River.  The steelhead and lake trout fishing has been good in Artpark and Devils Hole.  Minnows and egg sacks are taking most of the fish caught.  The Niagara bar is still hot, and will only get better for the remainder of the winter and spring season.  Live minnows are the bait of choice on the bar.

Niagara River fishing report February 1, 2016

Steelhead fishing in the Niagara River remains good.  Steelhead and lake trout are taking egg sacks and live minnows in the Artpark and Devil’s Hole drifts.  The Niagara bar action has been hot, with lots of lake trout, brown trout, and even some king salmon caught in January.  This is a very good sign for the upcoming Spring and Summer salmon season.  As always, river conditions affect fishing success in the river and bar.  High winds causing poor water clarity in the river has kept us off the river lately.  We can only hope that winds will calm, and the river will become fishable soon.  When the river starts to clear, fishing will be excellent, since there has been no pressure on the fish.  Stay tuned for future updates.
